Sharon Guzik
Sharon made the decision to run, after years as an activist, after her first Emerge weekend. Her Emerge training gave her the confidence she needed to take on the establishment School Committee in her town and the network of support she formed kept her going through a tough campaign. In November 2009, she won a seat on the Medford School Committee beating three incumbents.
Sharon Guzik is currently the part-time Administrative Coordinator of the Sustainable Business Network of Greater Boston (SBN). SBN is a membership organization of business leaders that promotes a socially-responsible and environmentally-sustainable business model for small and mid-sized businesses.
A former biologist and university instructor, Sharon is also a full-time mom and a fervent community volunteer.
Her activities include being the President of the Friends of the Medford Public Library, the Vice President of the Medford Historical Society, co-founding two environmental groups in Medford (the Medford Environmental Alliance and the Medford Citizens Street Tree Group), being active her in her sons' school PTO, and being a member of the school site improvement council.
Having moved to the Boston area from Chicago in 1987, Sharon has become active in Massachusetts politics. She was heavily involved in Carl Sciortino's State Representative campaigns in both 2004 and 2008, managed a local school committee candidate's campaign in 2005, coordinated the Deval Patrick gubernatorial campaign efforts in Medford in 2006, and was active with a MassEquality effort to sway a Medford representative's vote on the proposed marriage amendment in 2007.
She is currently involved in efforts to reform MCAS, as well as trying to effect change in the Medford schools. Sharon is the chair of the Ward 4 Medford Democratic Committee.
